Cristiano Ronaldo Scores Late Winner Against Iceland On 200th Portugal Appearance

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first player in the history of men's international soccer to win 200 caps.The 38-year-old made history by starting for Portugal in Tuesday's Euro 2024 qualifier away to Iceland.Ronaldo went on to mark the occasion by scoring an 89th-minute winner in a 1-0 victory.

His 123rd international goal, which extended his world record, was initially disallowed for an alleged offside against teammate Goncalo Inacio.But a VAR review resulted in the goal being awarded.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Ronaldo said: "For me it's an unbelievable achievement, it's amazing. And, of course to score the winning goal, it's even more special.

"We didn't play so well but sometimes football is like that, but we scored a goal and, in my opinion, we deserved it. I'm so happy because of 200 caps, but this is even more special."Ronaldo broke Kuwait forward Bader Al-Mutawa's record of 196 caps in March.He is also now 14 goals clear of former Iran striker Ali Daei on the all-time list of top international men's scorers.

Lionel Messi is in third place with 103 goals.
Tuesday's win over Iceland took Portugal to 12 points from four games in Euro 2024 qualifying.Next up is a trip to Slovakia in September.
